Recipe for CMC Calculation

You must make up a sequence of concentration dilutions and measure the equilibrium surface tension of each. It helps to know approximately where the CMC is and bracket it with several on each side. You must have at least one concentration above the CMC and one below it, with a minimum of three dilutions total. You can have as many measurements as you wish.

  • Enter the concentration and measured surface tension for each concentration in the table on the Interfacial Tension tab of a Movie form. Use Add Row to make as many rows as you have measurements. You will enter all data in a single table (rather than one measurement on each Movie).

  • Click the Calc button at the bottom of the box. The calculated CMC will be displayed numerically and a graph of concentrations and surface tensions drawn.
